I have the tendency to switch the background color between white, 50% gray and black. (I use white to make sure I am not making it too dark, gray for general viewing and black to better judge shadow areas.)
It would be great to have this option in a separate right-click menu when clicking outside the image (as in Photoshop), or even better with a shortcut to tab through them (Tab key for example)
