Workspace settings independent of language and originating workspace

This request relates to this post.

Checked what DPL does when a workspace is saved. This is what I did and found.

Workspace without palettes

  • Set workspace to “DxO Standard” and removed all palettes
  • Saved the palette-free workspace as “none from standard”
  • Set workspace to “DxO Advanced” and removed all palettes
  • Saved the palette-free workspace as “none from advanced”
  • Set workspace to “DxO What’s New” and removed all palettes
  • Saved the palette-free workspace as “none from whatsnew”
  • Comparing the resulting .dopworkspace files, I found that
    a) the originating workspace carries over to the “none…” workspace
    b) the language with which DPL is used carries over to saved workspace files too

Workspace with palettes

  • the same thing happens as mentioned above

While this behaviour is quite alright for a user on a disconnected island, it is less than what I expect from a multi-language application.

I propose that PhotoLab be improved according to the following requirements

  1. Make workspace settings files independent of language
  2. Make workspace settings files independent of how they were created

The above can be achieved by a separate workspace template or any other means that meet the requirements mentioned above.

The benefit of such an amendment is, that PhotoLab users can share/exchange workspaces without having to rework them. An additional bonus would be if workspace files were independent of the OS used.

Independent of OS and maybe about the last 2-3 versions of DXO.
Only entries are not component of the earlier version will not be shown
Don’t know what will happen if the entries are renamed over the version history

When changing the language, my “custom workspace” gets properly translated in English, French, German – but didn’t try with Screen Shot 09-15-21 at 12.38 PM or import.
