Shouldn’t the support forum be simply a link from the main forum?

You don’t have to purchase, or prove that you purchased, a DXO product to be a member of this site. This is a user forum but unlike many user forums for other software publishers we are extremely lucky that a large number of DXO staff members contribute to it regularly. In my opinion combining log-ins for the two unrelated sites would not be a good idea.

Indeed. It allows prospective users to do checks and find out about the product from users before they buy.
Reviews are the usual way of checking out potential purchases, but actually seeing and interacting with users is an even better way before you purchase.
