Upgrade to PureRAW 2

Just to be double-dog sure, I completely uninstalled PR2. I then downloaded a fresh copy from the DXO site. I’m using the program in Demo mode. I don’t own PR2 (yet? ever?). I installed the fresh copy, made sure everything was in the right place. I then launched LR Classic CC version 11.2. Upon opening I was presented with the message that PR2 was now available and gave the simple instruction on how to use it. After dismissing the message, I found an image I wanted to use PR2 with, opened the image through LR “Plug In Extras” | Process in PR2 and away it went. It launched PR2, gave me the choice of Noise Reduction methods, and processed the image. Upon completion, it ONCE AGAIN tried to launch a second instance of LR, which failed because the catalog was already open, QUIT instance 2, which spawned Instance 3, again failing, and then giving up, but eventually returning the NEF as a DNG file with the DXOPR2 edit indicator.

So clearly, something isn’t behaving exactly right. It is almost like the Plug In Extra piece (the front end) is working fine, but the .lrplugin files aren’t being launched correctly or at all. I’d literally have to watch this under a real-time debugger to see what is happening, but nobody pays me to do this.

And, for grins and giggles, here is the log PureRaw2 creates when in runs as a Lightroom Plugin.

So this may be related to DxO trying to start new instances of LR after processing an image that was passed via the File->Export_with_preset or File->PluginExtras->Process With Dx0 Raw 2. In my case, DxO posts an error message:
An error occurred while launching the DxO PureRaw 2 plugin

This is on an iMac with current versions of MacOS and Lightroom. …and note: the Finder context right click works just fine.

Issues on two i9 iMacs (2019, 2020). No issues on two MacBook Pros (both 2019).

Sure it is - on my Macbook Air it’s more than 3times faster.
8Sek. instead of 29Sek. for a 25MB sony APS-C Kamera file.
16Sek. instead of 50Sek. for 43,1MB file from a Sony A7r2.
And also sure it’s a shame to rip users that own pureraw 1 with 79€.

I am, to say the least, somewhat disappointed with the update policy regarding PureRAW. Version 2 offers integration with Lightroom and the editing speed has increased, but for me - as a Nikon user - the new version does not add anything else. I have compared both versions, but visually I see no difference in image quality. And then I find € 79 for an update of software that I bought in April last year - at the introduction - quite a lot of money. The update should actually be free or at least much cheaper.

I just upgraded to version 2 because of the claim made by DXO : “4 times faster on an Apple Silicon Mac”
On my 16" M1 Max Macbook Pro image processing isn’t any faster than version 1.5 so unless I’m missing something, this is a false claim…

I am deeply disappointed, my license is not even 6 months old, and it is not compatible with the Fuji RAFs and neither with the Sony A7IVr. If the policy is going to be to checkout again…nothing happens…for €79 I will buy the Denoise IA that offers better results, and I can use it in any step of the process in photoshop. I will never buy a DXO product again either.

There is also another problem, with the panoramas in PTGUI PRO I need DXO not to do the lens corrections, and this is something that DXO does not have.

I too am disappointed, I was also hoping for other saved file formats. Being able to save as a TIF would make it a little more valuable. I mentioned early in a post that I bought Boris FX Optics last year and I just received the latest edition for free! You get a whole year of updates free with your purchase, this is how it should be done. This $79 update for a one trick pony is really pricey! I am also done with any DXO products.

Tried the Windows trial version and found v2 is more faster than v1 when dealing with DNG. But one thing disappointed me is v2 still has no setting to adjust the strength though.

For some night scene photos with many high rise building, the denoise function in PR2 (same as V1) can make the borders of apartments deformed from straight lines to crooked lines if you enlarge the photo to 100% (or higher) view. . But dfine2 will not have this issue.

For now, I will keep my v1.5 for my workflow. No intention to upgrade to 2.0 at this time.

Thank you I will hold off on purchase myself for this reason.

I’ve owned Pureraw 1.5 since November 30, 2021, and have found it extremely capable of improving most of my marginal shots and improving my better ones. Releasing Pureraw 2.0 and charging $79 for what I consider to be minor fixes is in my opinion money-grubbing. I understand software vendors are getting desperate to establish subscriptions, but enough is enough.

PureRaw1 was released about 1 year ago. An update to version 2 is logical. Who does not need the new functions, can sign on this update. About the price: how much did we spend annually on films, development, enlargements or slide mounts when we still photographed analog?

Price matters to artists who do not make commercial photography or money period. One can be nickel and dimed to death, metaphorically speaking.

I’ve been working this problem all morning and I have finally identified the “issue” of respawning instances of LR when returning the DNG. The default return folder is a subfolder under the original folder. For reasons entirely unclear to me, if you define a custom folder for the image instead of using the default folder, it returns the DNG without issue. It isn’t a permissions issue, but there is definitely something that is coded wrongly for macOS 12.3.

The common factor between the two iMacs that are experiencing this issue is that both run SoftRAID 6.2.1 as the driver for the OWC Raid Arrays where I store my images for editing. Neither of my MacBook Pros have attached RAID arrays and don’t run SoftRAID. Since SoftRAID is very common software and causes no difficulty with LR + other DXO products, or any other plugins I have, I have to suspect that there is something amiss with the coding that is overriding once I change the default folder. Unfortunately, the default setting is what I’d like to “set and forget” since that is the obvious place for the developed images to go. The custom setting doesn’t allow that particular setup that I can see, so is a poor substitute for the default.

Another suggestion since the default folder issue has presented itself. I can’t speak for others, but the returned files clearly indicate in the renaming that they’ve been processed by Pure Raw 2. Why do they need to go in a subfolder under the original folder named DXO? Why not place them back in the original folder? They are trivial to identify.

@mrfearless47 Yes! Back to the original folder is what I want too.

So, I downloaded the update to PR 2 (2.0.1). There is still an issue with the Lightroom Plugin on macOS Monterey, while using SoftRAID. The update reduces the frequency of spawning instances of LR (it is now down to 1 instead of 2), but it still fails to return the DNG until after I’ve quit the first instance after running LR ( I suppose I should call this instance 2, since LR is still running when PR2 calls LR to run a second time). It is an improvement, but it isn’t what I would expect of a finished product.
