Other packages do it. With losseless options, it is better than the old JPG and 48 bit color is implemented.
It typically is 1/3 to 1/10 the size of a comparable TIFF.
JPEG 2000 is definitely better than the old war horse JPEG. However, I’d prefer the implementation of more modern successors like JPEG XL (currently in development) instead of JPEG 2000.

Same here, but given the “non-acceptance” of the great improvements of JPEG 2000 by developers and users, I have little hope for JPEG XL (I would love to be wrong on this.)
