So perhaps we don’t had the same View NX2, as I’ve used it a lot to put metadata in the Nef files, and I’ve never had any issue with DxO Optics Pro and PhotoLab, and I still not have any issue when I come back to one of these files.
I’m not using it only as it’s not working anymore on latest MacOS.
Possibly the difference is that you didn’t use it to actually edit the image data?
Yes, of course all what I was doing was loading images with Transfer NX which had metadata presets and then complete metadata and culling with View NX, and then open in Optics Pro / PhotoLab for the image development and optimization.
It could have been ViewNx1.

I saw this today on Phil Harvey’s website - might be of some interest. I know he is getting lots of corrupted NEF questions.
One thing more. Adding metadata to the file or renaming the file is not the same as editing. I use Viewnx2 too for adding metadata to the raw file. Also for camera’s that are not supported in the program.
