I would like that PL looks in the XMP sidecar if PL can’t determine the lens used.
Context : The algorithm to determine a lens is very complex. And sometime, it’s wrong or he lens can’t be detected. In our case, mostly it’s because we don’t have the original RAW. Yes, it’s so because in the past, many applications like geolocalisation write directly in the RAW.
So, we make a script based on exiftool and this script write the lens identification (XMP-aux:LensID) in the xmp sidecar. Now, the lens is know for all our picture from 2008 until now (75 kpics).
